The Time We Give Away

I have been thinking lately about how easily we give away our time when asked, or even gently prompted…

“Can you just…?”
“It’ll only take a minute…”

“Would you mind…?”

And because we are capable, caring souls, we often say yes.

Sometimes without even stopping to consider whether we have the time, energy or emotional capacity to take on something else.

But time is one of our most valuable resources.

Sometimes, the time we so freely give to others is the very time we have been needing for ourselves.

Time to pause.
Time to rest.

Or simply time to do nothing.

I am learning that when we begin to value ourselves, we also begin to value our time.

That does not mean becoming less generous or caring.

It means becoming more intentional.

Because every yes costs us something.

And sometimes, a loving “no” can be one of the greatest acts of self-respect.

Perhaps it is worth pausing before our next yes and asking ourselves whether we are also making enough space for our own needs.

Reflection

What deserves more of my time… and what deserves less?

Affirmation

My time has value.
I give it intentionally to people, work and experience that matter to me.
