Polyvagal Therapy

Polyvagal-informed therapy applies the science of the autonomic nervous system to healing. It helps clients understand and regulate their nervous system states — safety, mobilisation, and shutdown — building greater capacity for connection, presence, and resilience.

Cultural origin

Based on Polyvagal Theory developed by Dr Stephen Porges at the University of Illinois in the 1990s.

What a session involves

Sessions blend education about the nervous system with somatic practices, breathwork, and therapeutic conversation. The practitioner helps the client build an understanding of their nervous system patterns and develop practical tools for regulation. Sessions last 60–90 minutes.

Who it's for

Anyone with anxiety, trauma, chronic stress, dissociation, or difficulty in relationships. Particularly effective for those who feel chronically unsafe, overwhelmed, or shut down.
